Description
The ALMA software is designed to allow operators and service integrators to fully employ the wide range of features available in DS2 technology. To build robust, fault tolerant; Smart Grid, Ethernet over Coax and Smart Building networks.
The ALMA software has been designed for communication networks that need centralized control and high configuration flexibility.
Features
Advanced centralized provisioning
Complete SNMP standard network management
VLAN: Secure segmented network
Quality of Service and traffic prioritization
A Complete Scalable Network
Advanced centralized provisioning
It is essential for the successful deployment of large communication networks that all nodes automatically receive the essential networking parameters. The embedded DHCP client also supports configuration file downloading, reducing the effort needed to manage the network. The VLAN, OVLAN and QoS configuration of each node is stored in a central database, and the modem downloads the updated configuration every time it boots.
Complete SNMP standard network management
ALMA includes a fully-featured SNMP agent to leverage existing management tools like HP OpenView or Tivoli NetView. The agent implements both standard (RFC 1213) and extended DS2 MIBs. This allows network management software to remotely access and control a wide range of information in each node to check the network state, generate alarms, and help the troubleshooting process.
VLAN: Secure segmented network
Advanced Virtual LAN technology allows the simple creation of secure, isolated network segments. The ALMA Software supports the capability to include both 802.1q VLAN tagging and separate OVLAN tagging in the same packet. This mechanism allows all end user networks to be isolated while also separating the traffic flows, for example for VoIP, data and control traffic. Further network security is provided with ALMA's embedded RADIUS client to ensure that only authorized nodes can be added to the network.
Quality of Service and traffic prioritization
The ALMA software takes fully advantage of the complete Quality of Service (QoS) engine implemented in the Integrated Circuits. Latencies and bandwidth levels can be assigned to allow different traffic flows to the end users and limit the bandwidth available for each one of them.
A Complete Scalable Network
Any node in the network can act as a Time Division (TD) repeater and expand the reach of the network based on the ALMA software. Any of the infrastructure nodes, such as the DR100 and DR200 can be configured as TD repeater or Head-End (HE). ALMA allows for full flexibility in the bandwidth used within the band of 2 - 34 MHz. Default frequency bands of 30 MHz to 5 MHz are available and even smaller can easily be assigned using the configuration tools. This added flexibility allows for Frequency Division (FD) repeating using two nodes connected through MII (Ethernet) even in a shared medium.
